Marshals, Communications & Volunteers

GET INVOLVED! VOLUNTEER & GET CLOSE TO THE ACTION

Like any other motorsport, the Voly Grampian Forest Rally could not take place without a small army of volunteers, ensuring the safety of competitors and fans alike. Ranging from stage-side marshals, to timekeepers, rescue and recovery operators, radio communications and many more, this band of dedicated people give up their valuable time to assist in hundreds of events every year.

The Voly Grampian Forest Rally is one of the most popular motorsport events in Scotland, and the 2026 event, taking place on 7th/8th August, promises to be one of the most exciting editions yet.

With the news that the FIA World Rally Championship is heading to the region for Rally Scotland in 2027, the Grampian Forest Rally is billed as the perfect preparation for teams across the globe to sample the unique Aberdeenshire stages for the first time, and could well see some top-flight entries making their way to Banchory this summer.

This, of course, is in addition to the Motorsport UK British Rally Championship and Asset Alliance Scottish Rally Championship contenders who return to the Grampian once again and will be battling it out for their respective championship titles.

Based at Milton of Crathes, just outside of Aberdeen, the rally will get underway on Friday 7th with a ceremonial start at King George V Park in Banchory, before two stages in the south, during the fading light.

Saturday houses the bulk of the mileage in the super-fast local forests, before the traditional champagne spray and finish celebrations back in Banchory.

As always, we require a small army of volunteers and marshals to help ensure we run a safe and successful weekend of motorsport. There are a variety of roles available, from in-stage, timing, to re-groups and service. Even if you have no experience, we can find a role for you. If you can help in any way, please get in touch with the respective staffing officers who will be able to assist.

TO BECOME AN ACCREDITED MOTORSPORT UK RALLY MARSHAL:

Motorsport UK’s online training and accreditation scheme for Rally Marshals is part of the RallyFuture campaign to further enhance safety on UK stage rallies. Its purpose is to ensure that all Rally Marshals have a common understanding of their roles and responsibilities, the management of spectators and how to handle and manage an incident.

To get started, CLICK HERE to create an account in the Learning Hub and then follow the relevant links.

In the Learning Hub you will find a range of useful training and awareness modules aimed at the marshalling community. To become a Registered Marshal with Motorsport UK, you must first complete the Registered Marshal Accreditation Course which you will find on the homepage.

Once you have completed the online course, you may then complete your registration by confirming your details and uploading a photograph via the member portal.

Registering allows you to volunteer for any type of event to assist the marshalling team. Please inform the organising club if you are just starting out on your marshalling journey or are new to the discipline – they will then ensure that you are supported by someone with the appropriate experience.

By registering with Motorsport UK, you will receive:

  • A Marshal’s tabard and registration card

  • Access to Motorsport UK’s Member Benefits Scheme

  • Motorsport UK’s monthly digital magazine, Revolution, and member newsletter

Marshal training shall be provided prior to this year’s event on 8th August.

If you are keen to marshal for our event we would ask that you register your details with us so we can keep you updated on the event.
